Maria Katsarou Psychology Practice
Welcomes You
We only become what we are by the radical and deep-seated refusal of that which others have made of us.
– Jean-Paul Sartre
Maria has been practicing as a psychologist and psychotherapist since 2005. Her practice is fundamentally driven by systemic thinking, a perspective she has honed over two decades of clinical work. By viewing an individual’s challenges within the context of their broader relationships and environment, Maria provides a comprehensive and long-lasting approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Experience & Areas of Focus:
Her clinical foundation includes four years of intensive training in Systemic Therapy, complemented by extensive experience in EMDR therapy, which she has integrated into her practice since 2013. This background allows her to effectively combine trauma-informed care with systemic insights. Throughout her career—spanning international clinical settings, NGO program coordination, and private practice—Maria has remained dedicated to supporting individuals through complex mental health and personal growth journeys.
Clinical Approach:
Maria’s practice considers the interplay between a person’s history, biology, and social environment. With a primary focus on trauma therapy, she ensures care is tailored to the individual’s broader life context. Maria integrates evidence-based interventions, including:
EMDR Therapy (including EMDR 2.0)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Systemic Therapy & Counselling
Solution-Focused Techniques
Attachment-Informed Care
By combining these methods, Maria provides a purposeful and research-based space for adult individuals and couples to process traumatic memories, resolve distressing experiences, and build practical tools for daily life.
Qualifications:
Maria holds a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of Southern Queensland. As an endorsed Clinical Psychologist, she provides evidence-based treatments that align with AHPRA standards, ensuring every client receives high-quality, professional care tailored to their specific needs.
